Planned areas of cooperation include major international events such as NATO Days in Ostrava, the Czech National Conference (“Our Security Cannot Be Taken for Granted”) in Prague, and the Resiliance in Security and Economics Dialogue (RISE) in Austin, TX. The inaugural RISE conference, held at the University of Texas at Austin, was organized by the Atlantic Council and Jagello 2000 in partnership with the University of Texas at Austin, and supported by CSG, AFoCR, and the George W. Bush Institute. As the transatlantic relationship undergoes a period of significant change, the RISE Dialogue convened leading policymakers, business leaders, and experts to explore opportunities to deepen U.S.–European collaboration, strengthen resilience, foster innovation, and expand economic opportunity on both sides of the Atlantic. The evening coincided with his highly anticipated performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, highlighting and deepening the long-standing musical bond between the Czech Republic and the United States. The event also marked the launch of the newly established Friends of the Czech Philharmonic, which introduced the inaugural Musical Celebration in Prague scheduled for June 2026. This landmark initiative begins what is envisioned as an annual tradition, bringing together the orchestra’s global community in the heart of Prague. Maestro Hrůša is one of the leading Czech conductors of his generation, serving as Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony, Music Director of The Royal Opera in London, and recently announced as the next Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic, effective with the 2028–2029 season. He was recently honored with the International Classical Music Award—often referred to as the “classical music Oscar”—recognizing his outstanding artistic achievements. The conference underscored the importance of vigilance, preparedness, and sustained strategic investment. AFoCR was represented at the conference by Director Emeritus Peter Bišek, who joined senior military leaders, policymakers, and industry experts in discussions on key topics including national security priorities, modernization of defense technologies, and emerging trends in both internal and external security. A highlight of the program was a political panel featuring representatives from across the Czech political spectrum, demonstrating a shared commitment to addressing security challenges. The conference featured keynote addresses by President of the Czech Republic H.E. Petr Pavel and U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic H.E. Nicholas Merrick. Both emphasized the critical importance of NATO unity and the need for member states to meet their defense commitments. Bisek joined Ambassador Nicholas Merrick and the Mayor of Prague 1, Ms. Terezie Radoměřská, in laying wreaths at the Woodrow Wilson Monument. Situated in the Vrchlický Park area facing the Prague main railway station (Hlavní nádraží), the original statue was erected in 1928 to thank US President Woodrow Wilson for his support in creating an independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. It was destroyed by the Nazi occupation forces in 1941. The new, replica monument was unveiled on October 5, 2011, as a symbol of friendship between the US and the Czech Republic. The statue is a replica of the original created by Czech-American sculptor Albín Polášek. AFoCR (afocr.org) led the effort in returning the statue of Wilson to its rightful place.
