Václav Havel Tribute on the Walk of Freedom
With the death of former Czech President Václav Havel on December 11, 2011, the world lost one of the great men of our time. He was the chief negotiator who ended 42 years of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia and became the first president of the newly free country. He linked his people firmly to the West, and was one of the most important political thinkers in Central Europe and moral voices in the world.
In tribute to him the American Czech and Slovak communities have dedicated a plaque on the Walk of Freedom at the Woodrow Wilson Monument in Prague. Click here to see the names of those who made this happen: Havel
