Michael G. Rokos
AFoCR Director and past President The Rev. Michael G. Rokos has been a member of the Board of AFoCR since 1999 and has served as President, Vice President and as a member of the Board of Directors.
He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and the Virginia Theological Seminary. He is an Episcopal Priest and has served parishes in the Dioceses of Maryland, Washington and Delaware and has a private practice in psychotherapy. He is currently the Priest-in-Charge of St. Margaret’s Church, Coventry outside of Baltimore.
Mr. Rokos’ paternal line has its roots in the Czech lands. The Rokos line came from the area around Čáslav and Mr. Rokos‘ grandmother‘s family, the Klečka Family, came from Nehodiv in south Bohemia. Mr. Rokos‘ greatgrandfather, Josef Klečka, was among the earliest immigrants to the US after the Civil War concluded. Both the Rokos Family and the Klečka Family were motivated to come to America because they wanted to be Czech, something difficult to do under the Hapsburg rule. The names Rokos and Klečka became among the most significant names in the very large Czech community in Baltimore.
Mr. Rokos has continued the family tradition of being involved in the Czech American community. Mr. Rokos has served as President of the Czech and Slovak Heritage Association of Maryland, and as a Board member of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Rokos is currently the President of Sokol Baltimore and also the Bohemian National Cemetery Association in Baltimore, Maryland.
