Peter Bisek

Peter Bisek

AFoCR Director Peter Bisek was born in 1941 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Since 1965, he has lived in the United States and currently resides in Long Island, New York with his wife, Vera. His daughter, Veronica, is a project finance lawyer with the law firm Skadden, Arps, in New York. His son, Jonathan, is a General Manager of the Czech branch of MOL Logistics (Japan) in Pilsen, Czech Republic.

Mr. Bisek is the owner of Typrints Company in Glen Cove, NY and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Czech & Slovak-American bi-weekly, Americké Listy which he published with his wife from 1990-2010.

In 1997, Mr. Bisek received the Medal of Merit First Class from then-President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel for the successful lobbying on behalf of the Czech Republic´s speedy acceptance into North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). In 2005, both Mr. and Mrs. Bisek received the Gratias Agit award for "spreading the good word about the Czech Republic abroad" from the Czech Secretary of State, and in 2010 Mr. Bisek received a commemorative medal from the Chairman of the Senate of the Czech Republic.

From 1996-2009, Mr. Bisek was Vice President and President of the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria, Inc. which owns the Bohemian Hall & Garden in Astoria, New York, also known as Bohémka. Under his Presidency, the Bohémka grew from near-bankruptcy to a multimillion dollar business and the Society’s Czech and Slovak School for children from one small class to four classes of 90 pupils.

Mr. Bisek is a certified rowing coach and a master rower-competitor. During the last six years, Mr. Bisek coached three US Rowing national junior sculling champions. In 2008, Mr. Bisek received a Special Medal from the Joy of Sculling Conference, the largest rowing coaches conference in the world.
